I think that I just need this to be "on my record" as time passes. 

I am so - distraught - with the news from the U.S. I have been predicting for a long time that there would be no election in the States in 2026. People don't listen. 

 "What's happening in the U.S. doesn't affect us, so just get over it!" That sort of comment. 

 I have to disagree because what's happening right now is the start of the concentration camps - they are just not quite in the U.S. Instead, El Salvador is the perfect place. 

 And what happened to the rule of law? There is no rule of law that applies any more in the States. 

 Yesterday, someone mentioned (maybe on Rachel Maddow's show) that the States can file Kidnapping charges against Trump. No rule of law exists that he will follow - and he's not alone. Their country is lost. 

 And it's getting more dangerous every moment. 

 All of the protests are fine. It shows how unpopular Trump is - but to what end? I don't see any action being taken that will be effective against these mobsters and against this mob boss. 

 Everything he is doing now is "obviously illegal." But doesn't that mean there can be consequences - legal consequences (and that means following the rule of law). When he doesn't respect the law - when no one in his hand-picked evil administration cares about the law - the country is lost. 

 The U.S. is now a threat to the rest of the world and, unfortunately, Canada is sitting right beside the States. I believe that a lot of evil can take place between now and 2026 to remove any chance of an election possible in 2026. The country is lost.

And a postscript - 

I feel like I just want to cry. Life is passing by. Nothing is as it has been and how it should be. 

This situation been 10 years in the making - much longer than that, as I realize - but the evil has not subsided. Instead, the evil has grown over time. 

Reading from Harvard, "No government should dictate..." Yes, they are now on record as well - but to what end?  ...to what end?

Climate Change -  Reducing the use of plastics

The topic today is the pressing issue that impacts the climate, our environment, and our communities: reducing the use of plastics. 

I always thought that reducing plastics would help somewhat in our local communities or my little corner of the world, but there’s far more to it than that. Single-use plastics, like bags, bottles, and packaging, are designed for convenience but leave a lasting legacy of pollution – we all know that. They take centuries to degrade and harm wildlife.  

But what I learned only recently was the significant contribution plastics make to greenhouse gas emissions throughout their lifecycle. 

Reducing plastic use is crucial because plastics are made from fossil fuels, and their production releases significant greenhouse gases --  approximately 3.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions -- significantly contributing to climate change and global warming.

Additionally, plastic waste makes up about 80% of all marine debris, damaging ecosystems and limiting the ocean’s ability to sequester carbon, which exacerbates global warming.

Reducing plastic use is both a personal responsibility and a community effort. So there are some things we can do:

Personal Accountability

1. Carry reusable bags, bottles, and utensils—ditch single-use items for durable alternatives.

2. Choose products with minimal or plastic-free packaging—support businesses that prioritize sustainability.

3. Refuse plastic straws and utensils when dining out and encourage others to do the same.

4. Repurpose and reuse plastic items that you already have to extend their life and reduce waste.

Community-Focused Actions

1. Organize community clean-ups to remove plastic waste from local parks, beaches, and streets.

2. Work with local businesses to reduce plastic packaging and encourage reusable alternatives.

3. Promote education campaigns in schools, clubs, and neighborhoods about the impact of plastic pollution and how to minimize it.

4. Advocate for local policies that ban or limit single-use plastics, such as plastic bags or straws.

By taking responsibility for our personal habits and engaging our communities in solutions, we can drastically reduce plastic waste and its harmful effects. 

We can all lead by example, showing that even small, consistent actions can drive significant change. Together, we can create a cleaner, more sustainable world.

Monday, February 10, 2025.

So it's a Monday, and I want to write.  There's a lot on my mind, but exactly what might be appropriate to write is another question.  

The sun is shining and there is a white layer of snow lying on the ground.  It hasn't snowed in a couple of day - or was it just yesterday that I shovelled the driveway and cleaned the car?  I think so - but even then, it had been a few days since there'd been any snow.  

Trouble is that it has been so very cold - or at least considerably below freezing - that the snow has not disappeared and the sidewalks still are quite covered with ice.  Even if the temperature rises above freezing, the ice melts, becomes liquid for a few hours, until the overnight freezing again. 

So, I have not been out on my morning walks for over a month!  I am having to change my routines.

I am sitting here watching the television beside me - or at least, it is on and I can see the headlines if I look at the screen.  

I hate Trump.  And I believe he will continue to be the worst human being - though his sycophants are a very close second to him - and I am fearful of what the world will look like in a month, let alone four more years.  He has been in office not even three full weeks yet!

The Americans voted for him - a president impeached twice - and (his Republican friends had a chance to get rid of him, but they did not), a convicted felow, and convicted rapist, and a degenerate human being!  I don't want to dwell on this, but it's on my mind all the time.  Those voters must be ignorant.

Outside my window there is a fence - a very nice wooden fence. In the better weather, it will be decorated happily.  All the decorations are put away for the winter.

Right now all day long, I can watch the squirrels running back and forth along the top of the fence - back and forth - chasing each other.  At least they are outside getting some exercise!

I like my little neighbourhood as well. We've been here since 2018 and we know several of the neighbours, and it's a very nice neighbourhood.  

I like the Rotary clubs here - there are three of them - but there are two "passport" clubs that meet online.  I am part of one passport club.  Rotary is a force for good in the world, and I think that Rotary makes its members better people.  They think outside of themselves and try to make their communities and the world a better and safer place for everyone.  That is a HUGE task, however.  It's February and the focus in Rotary is on Peace.  

I was sent a link of a trailer for "A Complete Unknown," the story of Bob Dylan.  I would like to see it, and I will wait until it is available online.  In the meantime, here's a trailer.

And that's about all I can write at the moment.  It's just a matter of choosing what's appropriate.
